These are some pictures of our main office and staff in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. We rented a big house on the side of the hill. The owner built it for his children who never lived in it. It was abandoned for 2 years. We remodeled and repainted the place. It's very unusual for Tegucigalpa in that it has a fireplace and even a small swimming pool. We've been here since last summer and the owner has yet to come by for his $650/month rent check.
This is a picture of the main staircase entrance with the bathtub-size swimming pool in the background.
This office houses our administrative staff as well as our Loma Linda Sur branch office. It sits on the side of the hill overlooking the Loma Linda Sur section of the city.
We have to have a guard out front in case of any attempted robberies although we keep very little cash in the office. Our clients love visiting us in the big house on the hill.
This is Carlos Zeron our Head Accountant. He's currently spending many hours helping out with the installation and testing of our new computer system and software called MicroBanker.
This is Lucy who is filling in for our Office Administrator, Maria Elena Ramos, who just left on maternity leave. Lucy used to work for us a few years ago. She moved to the US. Currently, she's visiting her mother in Tegucigalpa and agreed to fill in for Maria Elena. She will be handling some of the input of new Kiva projects.
We can't do without Doris. She maintains the office and even handles the switchboard. She spends the mornings in the main office then goes to our Pedregal Branch to take care of their cleaning needs.
Sitting with his back to the open door is Filadelfo Mahoudeau our IT guy. He's currently involved in the installation of our new computer system and MicroBanker software. He's also the main office backup for posting Kiva projects.
This is one valuable associate. Her name is Wildrinh Ramirez. She's the company lawyer. She chases down borrowers who refuse to pay, takes cases to court when we're faced with bankruptcies, and makes arrangements with delinquent payers. She recovers a lot of funds.
Lourdes Orbelina Valeriano. Our General Manager. She oversees the main office and 5 branches: 1) Danli (near the Nicaraguan border); 2) Pedregal (outskirts of Tegucigalpa); 3) Loma Linda Sur (in the main administrative office);
4) Choluteca (near the El Salvador border); and 5) San Lorenzo (also near the El Salvador border). By the end of 2007, we will be opening a new branch in downtown Tegucigalpa. Orbelina's CV runs over 6 pages of solid education, world travel, and work experience in consumer banking, agriculture loans, and micro-credit. She's been in the business for over 21 years and knows what she's doing. An outstanding colleague and friend.
Our Loma Linda Sur Branch Manager, Roberto Diaz. Roberto has been with
Prisma from the start. He started as an Account Clerk 3 years ago and was promoted to Branch Manager in October 2006. He is building the business from zero and has almost 400 clients now. He and Susan from Pedregal are in a friendly competition to see which branch produces the best results.
This is Mario Cruz, Loan Officer in the Loma Linda Sur Branch Office. He has been instrumental in helping Roberto Diaz build the business from scratch. He's out in the neighborhood every day dialoguing with clients and always on the lookout for new clients. This is tough work, but Mario is really good at it. He's in the office at 4:00PM inputing his paperwork into the computer.
A last picture taken from upstairs of the office. You can again see our banner with the slogan PRESTAMOS QUE CAMBIAN VIDAS.

Thank you for the wonderful blog. I love the pictures. Everything looks so great. I can see why the clients like to visit the house on the hill.
Best wishes for Maria Elana. And thanks to everyone.

The MicroBanker software mentioned - is this the MicroBanker Windows GTZ core banking software? Is it OK?

Dennis, let me check on that for you. We just had an update and I need to get the version number for you. KPM

Dennis, we're using MicroBanker for Windows, Version 4.5.6. Little more than 3 years on system. Very satisfied. A newer version is out, but we have some other external programs running on our hardware and need to make sure they won't compromise the new version before we go live. KPM
